web browsing and external email facilities to 500+ users. This
included writing suitable policies and procedures.

LAW FIRM NETWORK MANAGER EUROPE
Ran the European IS operation for this leading firm of US lawyers covering
4 offices in London (European head office), Paris, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf
and reporting to the IPS Director in New York was responsible for a 10 person
infrastructure
team in the various offices.
• Controlled the 9 month phased move from a
DOS/Windows 3.11 based environment to a fully routed and switched networked
infrastructure around Europe, inc. new
Frame Relay based WAN with TCP/IP and IPX traffic, Notes email and databases,
MS Office and NT application servers for a total of 500 users.
• Oversaw infrastructure planning and design consultant appointment
for move to new offices.
• Hired and trained four additional staff members to undertake systems administrator
roles in each office.
• Managed IS budget for Europe in excess of US$2 million per year.
• Implemented secure extranet giving clients and partners access to appropriate
information resources via dial-up and VPN.
• Designed and implemented a move from NT domains to Novell Netware 5 NDS throughout
Europe releasing significant resources.
• Planned initial stages of MS Exchange rollout for intra-firm and client communications.
1993-
1997 MISHCON DE REYA – SOLICITORS IT MANAGER Managed a team of five support
staff.
• Responsible for specifying, managing the tenders process and implementing
a twin-backbone multi-server Novell Netware SFTIII environment totalling
over 190 workstations and 30 printers. This was successfully rolled out over
a period
of 3 months with all staff being given access to the network. All users additionally
have access to e-mail, diary and scheduling applications and word-processing.
• Project Managed the installation of and cutover to a new Unix based
accounting system, now utilised by all fee-earners via a Windows front-end
for time-recording and billing purposes and by support staff for enquiry/reporting
functions.
• Implemented a further expansion to the network system to move to Category
5 UTP flood-wiring and intelligent switches/hubs to allow for the introduction
of a full document management system (to include automatic input, retrieval
and archiving) and multi-media/video conferencing applications, with further
plans
for a structured move to 100MB access for specialised work-groups.
• Successfully implemented a number of Lotus Notes NT servers and clients utilised
as the basis for a firm-wide knowledge-base for cross-departmental/discipline
work and for technical support/problem resolution.
• Installed and supported a Lotus Notes Domino web server to allow access to
the Internet and to run an internal Intranet encompassing human resources,
legal precedents etc.
• Setup and configured a Sparc-station based 64k-Kilostream full Internet feed
with firewall security which is utilised by a number of partners and
fee-earners within the firm as well as the Library.
• Oversaw the rollout to selected senior partners of a computer based voice-dictation
system.
• Designed and implemented a new 8 seat multi-media training room for in-house
seminars and computer based training.
1989 - 1993 SOLITAIRE SYSTEMS LIMITED Network Manager
• Installed, configured
and supported a wide area network for a large public company
running Novell Netware v3.11 and supporting nearly 150 users.
• Set up seven email sites around the country on behalf of Hays
Distribution plc with over 400 users running cc:Router with directory propagation etc. which
are utilised to board-room level.
• Implemented and supported Internet access for a large Dover-based public
shipping company ensuring connections between their various sites in the UK
and Chile to allow ships manifest details to be automatically routed between
sites
allowing instantaneous updates to their stock control and shipping movement
systems.
SKILL SET Have specialised in Novell Netware from ELS II to v6
both in LAN and WAN environments and now Microsoft W2K and XP.
Client software utilised includes OS/2, Windows, Windows/NT and
Windows9x and XP. Extensive experience in LAN management packages
including Novell Managewise and Intel
LANDESK Manager. Extensive experience in configuring and installing
LAN/WAN gateways over high-speed modem, ISDN and Kilostream links
using Spider/Cisco routers,
3COM Netbuilder and Newport Systems LAN2LAN/64 systems to enable
